Tour of Britain 2012

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I realised I had nailed a shot of cycling legends Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins………and MY DAD!!! A perfect way to repay my family’s own cycling legend. And an imminent Birthday present sorted! The Tour of Britain’s third stage began in the Scottish Borders, in Jedburgh. The cyclists did a circuit of Jedburgh so all the fans could get a good look. And right at the back of……..
NVA’s Speed of Light runners have been a joy to work with. Hundreds of hill runners have been trotting around Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh almost every night for the last three weeks in the London 2012 Festival Calendar. More details of NVA can be found at http://www.nva.org.uk Many of you have asked whether it is possible to purchase images. It is possible, of course. I can offer prints, canvasses or acrylics. Please ask if……..
I was lucky enough to be busy photographing for FCBC and the Forth Replacement Crossing – about half an hour before the Olympic torch relay was due to cross the Forth Road Bridge. How convenient! People twittering told me the convoy was running late and that Mark Beaumont would be cycling the flame over the bridge. I hoped the breeze down the Forth wouldn’t extinguish the flame. I’ve run over the bridge many times……..
In the middle of the night I kept reminding myself: “It can’t be harder than A-level maths”. This no-brainer has never let me down before. So why was I still awake at 5am???? Seven hours later I did feel tearful as I sprang across the finishing line – not the tears of relief that I had expected, but emotional  that this seemingly impossible mission had been well and truly accomplished,  and now what???? My……..
I have just been awarded a prize for triathlon – hmmmmm, well not exactly for a heroic sporting performance…….but for bravery !!! Ha ha!! Edinburgh Triathletes’ spectacular annular Honeystinger triathlon at Gullane Beach this weekend was almost reduced to a Duathlon by the serious breakers. The RIB couldn’t get past the tsunami-sized waves and the buoys would not stay put. I had volunteered for kayak duty – with the proviso that I was competent in a flat calm……..
“TRY-my-patience”, chortled my husband Robin, when I told him I had joined a team of wannabe TRI-athletes. In typical fashion, I seized an opportunity to join team “TT Rookies” without a second’s hesitation. Though no slouch, completing the Olympic distance London Triathlon on 31st July 2011 is a daunting challenge for me. Along with the other 30 wannabe triathletes from Edinburgh, we are all novices at triathlon and have no real idea of how……..
These images are from a photoshoot for Ben Glencross who teaches mountain biking skills to novices. I had to laugh when Ben thought I would be biking AND taking pictures…….Having Edinburgh Rat Raced with him a few times now, he of all people knows that my mountain bike skills are lamentable. I preferred to keep my cameras (and myself for that matter)  in one piece!!!……..
I married Robin McBride on May 2nd 2010, a few hours after we ran the Edinburgh 10K! We were thrilled to be joined in the run by about 30 of our guests – once they realised I wasn’t joking! And very happy to have raised over £5000 for Macmillan Cancer Support………
Another fun photoshoot hyping up children………As if they weren’t already wiped out after thrashing rival Edinburgh schools rugby teams I was soon putting them through their paces to capture some unique images of their schooldays. Cunning fatherly plan for a surprise Christmas present for mum.   Just hope their mum loves them as they are, and not scrubbed up with a white background……….    I look forward to seeing these talented and committed young players running out at Murrayfield in 2020………. ……..
A few pictures from the zany Edinburgh Rat Race 2009 – the urban adventure challenge that some of us look forward to all year…………. This activity (for points!) is “throw-a-mate”.  Funnily enough, most of the mates being thrown into the Scottish North Sea at Edinburgh were the women, bullied into it on grounds of reduced weight. Couldn’t really argue this point. My greatest worry was losing my contact lenses in the sea. My mountain biking skills are……..
This annual event takes place in Ludlow, and this is the third time Robin and I have made it down from Scotland to take part. This time Robin had come all the way from Stavanger, Norway! Danny Mason, on behalf of the Wolverhampton Wheelers Cycling Club, designs a 70+ mile route through some of Shropshire’s most dramatic (ie steep) landscapes. We started with a 1525 ft north face climb of the Long Mynd where……..
This was a tough assignment, but someone had to do it………. This job in Glasgow was particularly fun – the hardest part was turning down squads of aspiring female photographic assistants ………I felt a bit selfish. I hadn’t been able to resist bragging a bit (to girls) about the tempting brief I was sent: Photograph a rugby team creatively……….. The client was O2, and they were needing creative photographs from a variety of deserving……..
