About

I have been a professional photographer since 1997, although I graduated in mechanical engineering at Edinburgh University. I initially trained as a technical journalist in London , and then spent 5 years working in the oil industry in the North Sea for Schlumberger. With six months of the year free to travel the world I had plenty of opportunity to indulge my passion for photography and writing.

I became a licentiate of the Master Photographers’ Association (MPA) in 1997 . I have won Fuji awards, numerous MPA Scotland awards for commercial, wedding, portrait and wildlife photography, and in 2007 I won an award in the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competion –  Wildlife Photographer of the Year – for an image of an Arctic fox.

In May 2006 I was thrilled to be able to move back to a countryside house on the edge of the city of Edinburgh, close to mountains, seashore and the city’s spectacular architecture. I now spend as much time travelling and photographing wildlife as I can!

I would love to hear from you if you have any comments on my photography, or particular requirements for using my images in a commercial context. I hope you will also look at my website www.annahenly.com.
